Baby’s first food: Khichuri or semolina? Some advice for mothers in a dilemma

When the baby turns six months old, there is a buzz in our homes – “What should we feed the baby now?” Some mothers say give semolina, some say give rice starch. But today’s mothers are much more aware. They want to give the best. Today, on this blog of Somohar (somohar.com), we will discuss the baby’s first solid food in a very homely way.

Listen, there is no alternative to homemade food for the baby. Many people buy instant packaged cereals or cerelac, but it actually ruins the taste of the baby’s tongue. My advice is to introduce the baby to soft rice khichuri at the beginning. But be careful! Do not give fish, meat, various vegetables in khichuri on the first day. Start with just rice and dal. You can also give a little ghee. Ghee works great for the baby’s brain development. The baby’s stomach will take some time to adapt to this new food. So feed only 2-3 spoonfuls for the first few days.

There is a misconception in our society about semolina. Many people think that feeding semolina makes the baby fat. Yes, the baby may look a little chubby, but semolina does not have much nutritional value. Instead, you can make halwa at home with rice powder and oats. And yes, forget about sugar and salt! Do not give separate sugar or salt to the baby’s food before the age of one year. The sweetness of fruits is enough for the baby. Boiled apple puree or mashed banana can be a great afternoon snack.

Do not force feed the baby. In our country, it is the habit of mothers to run after the baby with a bowl. Do not do this, it creates fear of food in the baby. Somahar wants your baby to grow up happy and well-nourished. So be patient, try to understand the child’s preferences.
